Botox / Xeomin / Dysport

Neuromodulators are a purified protein that blocks receptors at nerve endings, preventing release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, responsible for muscle contraction.  Neuromodulators are used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles of the face into which it is injected and to prevent future wrinkles.

Neuromodulators will not fill any wrinkles or lines. Rather, they relax and smooth the moving lines, not stationary wrinkles. The results from Neuromodulators can last anywhere from 6 weeks to 4 months or more. The duration will vary from patient to patient.

Prior to your botox appointment avoid drinking alcohol (and wine), taking anti-inflammatory medications and eating foods heavy in garlic.

Botox, Xeomin and Dysport are all fairly quick procedures. When you arrive for your appointment you will be asked about areas that you want to see wrinkle reduction. Once your consultation is complete your skin will be cleansed and the injections placed.

It takes 4-7 days to see optimal results from Neuromodulators. You may require additional units at a subsequent follow-up visit within two weeks to complete the injection series to obtain the goals we have discussed. 10-50 units per area is only an average and is by no means the standard. People with stronger muscles may require more units. Males usually require more than females.
