Benefits of a Chemical Peel: Boost Your Skin’s Radiance

Did you know humans have used chemical peels as early as 3000 BC? Ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans created peels with different ingredients such as mustard, milk, or wine to develop their own peel treatments. Today the choice is much easier and ingredients are much more advanced. We generally classify chemical peels as superficial peels, medium-depth peels, and deep peels. Each peel varies in solutions and ingredients but all contain a chemical solution to aid in exfoliation and resurfacing.

Why Get a Chemical Peel?

If your skin is beginning to show a little more wear-and-tear than you’d like, a chemical peel is a great way to refresh your complexion and even address deeper skin concerns at an affordable price. Chemical peels remove upper layers of dead skin cells, leaving your face with a brighter complexion and a refreshed glow. They can also help with acne scars, blotches, dark spots, enlarged pores, and wrinkles.

Benefits of Vivace

“After my skin had finished peeling it was absolutely GLOWING. This was my second peel at Glamor Medical and the benefits just keep getting better and better! My pigmentation and freckles seem to have diminished significantly and the overall coloring was much more even across my face. My pores are less noticeable and my creams and serums seem to absorb more quickly. I can see a huge benefit in doing a series of peels. My skin has never been better and the change in tone and texture was immediate and obvious. I can’t wait to come back for my next peel!”

Which Type of Chemical Peel is Right For You?

  1. Superficial peels, as the name suggests, are so gentle they have the nickname of a “lunchtime peel.” The chemicals we use in these light peels are AHAs (alpha-hydroxy acids) that help break down the binding elements of the skin’s top layer (the epidermis). This causes dead and damaged skin cells to shed off and reveal fresh, healthy, new underlying skin. Therefore, superficial peels are perfect for minor skin irregularities like acne, discoloration, fine lines, and rough texture. Light peels are safe for almost all skin types and can be applied on the face, neck, and other areas of the body. Patients can expect minimal peeling and downtime and you will see results in as little as 1-2 weeks.
  2. Medium depth peels penetrate the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) as well as the upper part of the middle layer of skin (upper reticular dermis) which causes controlled damage and ignites regenerative changes. We use a cocktail of stronger acids, usually TCA (trichloroacetic acid). Therefore, Medium peels typically require more downtime than Superficial Peels. Typically anywhere between 3-10 days of “downtime” is necessary as peeling occurs. A medium peel is what we recommend to treat deeper wrinkles and scarring. Since there is more skin being removed and fresher skin is revealed once those aged and damaged layers are gone.
  3. Deep peels remove skin cells from the epidermis and from portions of the mid to lower layer of the dermis. We only recommend deep peels to address more serious imperfections. Only one treatment is required. The recovery of a deep chemical peel is lengthy and can be uncomfortable. Particularly when compared to light and medium peels.
