How to Get Rid of a Double Chin? Kybella Treatment Can Help.

Let’s talk about the double chin and how we can get rid of it! Submental fat, the fat beneath the chin causes what many refer to as a “double chin.” This is not always due to weight gain and can be very tricky to get rid of. In many cases, genetics and aging can both cause a double chin. In these cases, no amount of diet or exercise can correct the problem. Traditional surgical options such as liposuction used to be the go-to for removing submental fat. However, this procedure is highly invasive and requires significant downtime. Who wants that? Nowadays, there is really no need. Kybella injections can effectively “melt” away a double chin and is a great non-invasive, non-surgical option.

What is Kybella?

Kybella is an injectable technique using deoxycholic acid to target the fat beneath the chin. The treatment works over time to dissolve fat cells in the area. It requires minimal downtime and zero incisions of any kind. Kybella is in fact, the only FDA-approved injectable for treating the appearance of a double chin.

How Does Kybella Double Chin Reduction Work?

Kybella works by injecting a synthetic form of Deoxycholic Acid, which is a bile acid that the body produces naturally to absorb fat. By injecting this substance, Kybella is able to strategically dissolve the Submental Fat beneath the chin. Once injected, Kybella destroys the fat cells so that fat cannot be stored there anymore. This is a gradual process, in which the acid works to kill fat cells. These cells are then metabolized by the body over a period of several weeks.

How Many Sessions of Kybella are Necessary to Reduce a Double Chin

This depends entirely on the person. Typically, multiple treatments are necessary to fully eliminate the submental fat deposits. We recommend patients space the treatments out at least one month apart. In most cases, six treatments are required.

Preparing for Kybella

Kybella is non-surgical and non-invasive, therefore preparation for the procedure is minimal. However, when you book your appointment, our team will ask you several questions to determine whether Kybella is right for you. It is important to inform Glamor Medical of any procedures you’ve had on your neck, chin, and face in the past, as well as details of your medical history.

It is important to avoid NSAIDs such as aspirin for a week before your appointment to reduce bruising. Make sure to schedule Kybella away from any important events in case of swelling or bruising.

Lastly, it is important to disclose if you are pregnant, nursing, or planning to become pregnant in the near future. Currently, research on Kybella’s effect on a fetus or infant is ongoing and thus not yet approved for this use.

Who is a good candidate for Kybella?

Anyone, male or female, with fat beneath the chin that they would like to remove. Ideally, candidates would be 18 years or older which would mean their adult features are more developed.

If you are pregnant, nursing, planning to become pregnant, have an infection or medical condition near the injection site or are planning to have facial or jaw surgery, you might not be a good candidate.

  2. I have never considered any form of treatment like this and unsure if I ever would. Each to their own I suppose. But those out there who are conscious of such issues, it’s good that they have this option.
