What is a Botox Lip Flip

A Botox Lip Flip uses the specific placement of botox in the upper lip muscle, near the lip border, to relax and “flip” the lip. This makes the upper lips more visible and creates the appearance of a fuller, plumper, and natural-appearing upper lip.

How is a Botox Lip Flip different from Dermal Fillers?

Dermal Fillers use a hyaluronic acid-based filler to add volume to the lips. They are typically used on both upper and lower lips to create a plumper, fuller pout. Dermal fillers can make the upper lip appear more full. However, they cannot “lift” the lip upward the way a Botox Lip Flip can.

By targeting the muscles in the upper lip and relaxing them, a Botox Lip Flip can “flip” the upper lip so it appears fuller and more prominent. Botox Lip Flips do not add volume. Rather, they use the natural lips to create the fuller effect by tricking the muscles to create an upward tilt. The lifting effect means more of the upper lip is visible. This creates more of the “bee stung” effect where the upper and lower lips appear more equal in size.

How a Lip Flip is Performed?

When you book your procedure, our team will ask about any medications or supplements you might be taking. It is important to share this information so that we can advise you. This helps to avoid any adverse effects as Botox can interact with some medications and supplements. It is also important to avoid NSAIDs such as Aspirin for one week prior to your appointment to reduce the risk of bruising.

Before your procedure, we will apply a numbing cream to reduce discomfort. Then your nurse will inject Botox into the corners and center of the upper lip, near the lip line. Overall, the active procedure will take approximately 10 minutes.

What to Expect After Your Procedure

After your procedure, you can resume normal activities. The upper lip may feel a bit numb and swollen for a short period of time. If possible, it is best to avoid smoking or similar activities following the Lip Flip. It is also important to avoid rubbing or massaging the lips. Lastly, we advise patients to sleep on their back for a few days after the procedure.
